Firefly Watch

We've noticed that fireflies don't seem to be as common as they were when we were young. What a shame! They make summer nights so magical!

I just found Firefly Watch, a project of the Boston Museum of Science, this winter, and I've registered to participate this summer ('09) to help scientists find out why they seem to be declining.

It sounds like it will be easy. According to the website, we can use our own backyard as a data collection site, and we chart the occurrence of fireflies from May to August. Each week, we upload our observations to the Firefly Watch website. It will be interesting to see the results!
